BIG BOW English Lab used to have museum excursions every year. We took students to see the art of famous artists such as Gauguin, Dali, and Monet. Unfortunately, the pandemic forced us to temporarily suspend these events.
So, I was thrilled to see that the Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art was holding an exhibition on Vincent van Gogh. For this year's event, we partnered with Okidoki Eigo English School.
This exhibit spotlighted how his family supported him. His brother, Theo, supported him while he was alive, sending him money and trying to sell his paintings. Despite his brother's best efforts, he wasn't able to sell any. He and his wife named their only son Vincent. (Baby Vincent grew up to help open the Vincent van Gogh museum in the Netherlands in 1973.)
However, it was his sister-in-law, Jo, who worked the hardest to introduce Van Gogh to the world. After Theo died, she worked for 35 years to sell Van Gogh paintings and get them on the walls of museums.
It was a lot of fun teaching these lessons to the students. We had a quiz before the museum excursion began. Then the students were given a worksheet. They had to find the paintings on the worksheets and answer questions about them.
After everyone was finished, we gathered together to check our answers.
Everyone had a great time! I am looking forward to doing this again soon!
